Open Question: What cars do you suggest?

I'm 18 and was recently given $7500 to purchase my first car. Of this money I plan on devising the money up into about $500 for insurance/gas for the next few months, and $1000 to $2000 for probable repairs for the used car I plan to purchase, leaving about $5000-$6000 purchasing money for the actual car, bottom line I need a car around that price range. That being said I have done extensive research on cars but can't seem to pin down a good model to seriously consider. I would love something relatively sporty and fun to drive (a manual is a must), would prefer an AWD (I live in Colorado), and want a car that I don't have to feed too much money to in maintenance. From my research I have considered cars like the 1999-2001 Audi A4's, to the Subaru Legacy. Both are my top choices but upon research I realize that the A4's are expensive to maintain, but the AWD and performance are amazing. The Subaru Legacy on the other hand has good AWD and is also fun to drive, and reliability is better. However while reviewing them, as well as other Subaru's years 1997-2003 I find that most have huge engine reliability issues as well. Ive found some other decent Subarus as well but honestly hate the way they look and have heard some bad things regarding maintenance. For my price range I find many cars that are good in some aspects but not all. I need one that fits what I would like to get, something fun to drive/sporty (and manual), looks decent, preferably AWD but not required, but something also reliable that I don't need to worry about breaking down all the time. The top models I have found is: 1999 Audi A4 2.8 manual with 91k miles (considering it seriously because of relatively low milage) 2001 Subaru Legacy GT with 111K miles Additionally because of the money I have it has been difficult to find a car under 100k miles so I am somewhat worried about maintenance, which is why I have structured my budget to include maintenance. Ive been dying to get the Audi because everyone who i know that has one, (and of those years models i can afford 1999-2002) say that they are great cars for colorado driving, fun, and highly recommend them, but maintenance is an issue. Any suggestions on car models is great, along with past experiances! Thank You!... Read More »
